Sony has announced the successor to its PSP (playstation portable). No it's not the PSP2. It is, at the moment known as NGP (next generation portable), An odd name i'd say.

So what do we know about this gadget so far:

-Processor: Quad core Arm cortex A9 (whoa!!! that's 4 cores in a portable device)
-Graphics : Quad core powerVR SGX 543MP4+
-Display : 5" OLED, capacitative multitouch, 960x544 pixels
-connectivity: 3G, wifi b/g/n, bluetooth, GPS
-gyro sensor: Sixaxis motion sensing system, 3axis gyro and 3 axis accelerometer
- Two analog sticks, D-pad, 4 classical buttons, 2 shoulder buttons.
- camera: Two cameras (one rear and one front facing.
- No place for UMD, digital media rulez i guess.
-Mic input
-3 axis compass
There is also a rear capacitive multi-touch pad positioned exactly behind the screen, now that we would like to see implemented in games.
Sony claims the new NGP has performance similar to its big brother, the PS3, sounds promising.
Sony’s also announced a cross-platform dev framework to ease the programmers with the game ports. According to developers the port of the Lost Planet demo took three weeks, so it won’t be too long before we see many PS3 titles compatible with the new PSP NGP

If they had put a sim card slot in there somewhere then I bet this could have been the best selling smartphone. EVER.
