There are three examples which will give you a general idea:
  • Model S by Tesla
  • IQon system by Saab
  • VW Bulli concept

Tesla Model S:
Tesla Model S is an electric car which incorporates a huge 17” touchscreen infotainment system powered by none other than an nVidia Tegra2 SoC. IQon by Saab:

Apart from adjusting the air-conditioning and connecting with your smartphone via Bluetooth, It also functions as your driving companion, your social media hub with facebook, twitter, email manager,  internet browser,  video player, audio player, shopping guide, etc. but the best thing of all is that It is based on android, and you know what this means,….. yes,  Apps !. You can install apps of your liking from the IQon store and customize your dashboard with practical solutions as per your needs. For details click here

Bulli by VW:

Volkswagen has come up with an electric concept that has a built in iPad. The iPad will be positioned such that it is mounted in front of the driver or the front passenger row. It can also be removed from its position and used by the back seaters as well. Lets see how long does it take to make this concept a reality. In the meanwhile you are welcome to post your views about such a concept

While all these systems score a frost bite on the cool meter, but they pose a risk to safe driving. Touch screen systems do demand your visual attention in order to be operated, unlike the regular knobs and buttons which can be manipulated without looking ….uh. you get the point.

My question to all the readers is , how much do such infotainment systems influence your selection when buying a new car?
