Device manufacturers and Software Developers need app stores to prove that their products enjoy widespread support, but this third party app store is the first of its kind.
Apple, Google, Nokia, Samsung so on and so forth have their own App stores, and understandably so. All these companies want to show their support and commitment to the users as well as provide a single convenient place for software download tailored for their products. Now Amazon is the new player in the market , offering android apps for download.
There's no business like Apps business, Amazon would certainly like to cash in on the success of Apps business model. These low priced softwares enjoy a wider reach and installed user base, downloaded in millions they represent a huge financial transaction market.
Secondly, for the first time in history, the so called "post PC device" has overtaken the PC in terms of sales volume, at present the indications are that there will be no change in this trend in the coming future. So it is logical that all these devices need apps to satisfy user needs. This is the right time to establish your presence in the content provider's world. Nice move Amazon.
How will Amazon get noticed in the presence of android market?
- How about an Exclusive angry birds RIO edition, available for download, and free on the first day of launch, on the Amazon app store? ( one month head start, this app will be available on android market after 30 days of launch) certainly got your attention. I predict that with such an example there are more such deals to follow.
- Secondly, there is "free paid app of the day" campaign. Everyday, there will be an app available for free download which is otherwise a paid app. This would certainly bring user loyalty , and keep them revisiting the store, daily.
- Then there are several of the popular applications on the Android market, which are either priced similarly or slightly below the price listed on the Android market

Clicking the "Test drive now" button launches a copy of this app on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a web service that provides on-demand compute capacity in the cloud for developers. When you click on the simulated phone using your mouse, we send those inputs over the Internet to the app running on Amazon EC2 - just like your mobile device would send a finger tap to the app. Our servers then send the video and audio output from the app back to your computer. All this happens in real time, allowing you to explore the features of the app as if it were running on your mobile device.

With the launch of the Amazon App store. It will be interesting to see how the Android application market changes over the next 6-12 months, It will certainly benefit the Android Platform as a whole because of the competition and it will also provide a choice to the users. We have been hearing rumors that the electronics Giant Best Buy is also planning to step into Amazon's shoes with ideas of its own App store.
I hope that all the app stores live in harmony with each other and don't have software conflicts when using on the same device.
At the time of launch, Amazon App store is currently available for United States residents only.
