Sony Ericsson lost much of its brand confidence by showing poor support for its flagship smartphone, the Xperia X10. Everything was done right, but too late. The official acknowledgement of its lack of multitouch hardware did so much damage, that later on, upgradation to Eclair could not repair the lost grounds.
Now, Sony is back with a bang, taking advantage of its already popular Playstation Brand, Sony's worst kept secret has been Officially announced at the MWC 2011.
Previously rumoured to be the playstaion phone, Now we know as the "Xperia Play".
With a rather intriquing ad campaign "Android got Thumbs" , Sony Ericsson plans to rival the iphone in the gaming department as much as attracting potential gamers and smartphone users to go for the playstation brand with the "Playstation Certified" slogan.
At the heart of this playful smarty is a Snapdragon SoC clocked @ 1 Ghz, Running Android 2.3 a.k.a Gingerbread.
Features that set this phone apart from other androids and touchscreen smartphones:
-Playstation certified controls, it even has analog input and shoulder buttons, which in my opinion is a major improvement over the touchscreen controls which definitely hinder the view, and prove detrimental to the gaming experience as a whole.
-Wifi adhoc networking, play games with your friends, co-op or against eachother, for example fifa series.
-Touch sensitive gaming controls
- PSP like gaming buttons
- Accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate
- Proximity sensor for auto turn-off
- Multi-touch input method
- Timescape UI
-Internal memory 400 MB, 380 MB RAM user-available
-microSD, up to 32GB
-Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA
-Bluetooth, v2.1 with A2DP
-Camera 5 MP, 2592х1944 pixels, autofocus, LED flash
